Legendary Outdoor Clothing Store Filson Opens In Aspen

Layer first with a thin polypropylene/polyester shirt to wick away moisture while retaining warmth. Over that use a second layer of polypropylene/polyester in the form of a long-sleeved shirt or a fleece jacket, then a wind/water proof shell over that. Remember your head is a prime source of heat loss. Wear a hat. Choose paddling pants made of synthetic material as well. In warmer conditions, a polypropylene layer may be all you require.

Previously a niche part of the sporting goods market, the outdoor segment has expanded so rapidly over the past decade that it now accounts for about 20 percent of the global sportwear market. With increased sales comes increased scrutiny about the use of substances like perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which is used to make clothing stain and water-resistant - a big selling point for makers of outdoor clothing. PFOA is a persistent pollutant, which means that it does not break down when it is released into the environment. "As we've become bigger, it's only right that our industry is questioned," Mark Held from the European Outdoor Group said on the sidelines of the Outdoor trade fair in Friedrichshafen.

Colorado high country activities like horseback riding, four-wheeling and camping come to mind as well. Filson is known for highest quality and reliability. Filson's 900-square-foot store is at 402 So. Hunter Street, right across the street from the gondola in Aspen. Grand opening events, scheduled for December 12 and 19, will benefit Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), and Filson also will be a sponsor of ACES's Naturalist Nights programs for the 2014 winter season.

AFP RELAXNEWS EPA wants Ridgewood building to be 3rd Superfund site in city Outdoor clothing from top manufacturers is frequently contaminated with chemicals that are harmful to health and the environment, Greenpeace warned Monday. The environmental group said in a study that the materials that make many clothing items useful in wind, rain and snow are also toxic. "Images of pristine nature are often used for advertising outdoor clothing. But nature does not remain untouched by the chemicals in weather-resistant fabrics," it said. "All over the world, from secluded mountain lakes and Arctic polar ice to deep in the oceans, traces can be found of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds (PFCs), pollutants with properties that are harmful to the environment and health." Greenpeace said it had tested 14 rain jackets and rain trousers for women and children from top brands such as Jack Wolfskin, Vaude, North Face, Marmot, Patagonia and Adidas for PFCs and found that each sample was contaminated. It said that some PFCs were known endocrine disruptors and harmful to the reproductive system.

Multipurpose Outdoor Gear

I would say about half the men in here are not looking to purchase clothing because it has a functional purpose, says Susan Stemp, an REI sales associate. These guys gravitate toward something that looks cool [because they want] to wear [it] around casually. Just because a jacket is in the ski section doesnt mean its only purpose is on the ski slopes. In Pictures: Multipurpose Outdoor Gear About 10 years ago, when sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding and extreme bike racing started getting serious media attention, outdoor wear became popular as casual wear. People with no connection to the slopes started wearing brightly patterned jackets, shirts and ski pants. [George] Clooney, [Matthew] McConaughey, even [Brad] Pitt really made an impact on casual clothing, with their rough-around-the-edges looks, says Makuen. That unshaven, disheveled look became mass, and it inevitably had an affect on clothes. But jaket korea keren not all outdoor wear is appropriate for every day.
